Washington – Sudan Scope

There is growing anticipation among Sudanese and stakeholders concerned with Sudanese affairs regarding the upcoming meeting scheduled to be held in Washington within the next two days, with the participation of representatives from the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.

Sudan Scope has learned from exclusive sources that the United States will focus during the discussions on three main issues: maritime security, counterterrorism, and the future of Islamists, particularly ensuring their exclusion from the political landscape in the future. The same source added that several influential circles are working actively to push for the reinstatement of the dissolved National Congress Party as part of the political arrangements that may follow a ceasefire agreement.

The source further indicated that the meeting will not consider adding any new members to the Quartet at this stage. Instead, efforts will concentrate on listening to the perspectives of both warring parties, as well as those of the United Nations and the African Union, to incorporate them into the Quartet’s internal discussions.

Diplomatic sources confirmed to Sudan Scope that the four countries have agreed on the need to compel the warring parties to cease hostilities and allow the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid to save millions of Sudanese who are on the brink of starvation and ravaged by disease outbreaks.
