MARRAKESH - Sudan Scope
In an exclusive statement to Sudan Scope, the official spokesperson for the Civil Democratic Forces Alliance (SOMOUD) revealed the outcomes of the recent meeting between the General Secretariat and the Joint Political Mechanism. The meeting concluded with the need to mobilize regional and international efforts to explain the nature of what he described as the "Port Sudan Plan," which was introduced on March 10. The plan proposes confining the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to Darfur states and forming a government.
The SOMOUD spokesperson stressed that this plan does not represent a genuine path to peace but rather reflects the vision of one party that "believes it is winning the war," which only complicates the crisis instead of resolving it. He emphasized that "there is no military solution to the Sudanese problem," warning against placing the issue of "legitimacy" at the heart of the conflict. He cautioned that recognizing what he termed the "Port Sudan Authority" as a legitimate authority entrenches division and prolongs the war.
As part of political engagement efforts, Eljack explained that meetings held with regional and international figures on the sidelines of the recent forum aimed to draw attention to the Sudanese issue and to underscore the importance of a civilian political path, away from military solutions that would only bring further destruction and division.
