New York / Washington – Sudan Scope

The United States has strongly condemned the violence and killing of civilians in Sudan, describing the conflict as one that has involved “some of the worst types of fighting and violence that humanity has experienced.” In remarks delivered at a UN Security Council briefing on the International Criminal Court’s investigation into the situation in Darfur, U.S. Representative for U.N. Management and Reform Ambassador Jeffrey Bartos stated:

“The conflict in Sudan has also seen some of the worst types of fighting and violence that humanity has experienced, with the commission of atrocities, including genocide by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and the use of chemical weapons by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF)… The United States condemns the violence and killing of civilians in the strongest terms, and we call on all parties to the conflict to halt the violence and embark on a path to peace.”

The statement was highlighted today by the official X account of the U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs. This comes alongside renewed emphasis from the U.S. Mission to the United Nations on President Donald Trump’s commitment to peace in Sudan. U.S. officials said they are working at the highest levels to press all relevant parties to stop outside assistance that is fueling the violence. The United States called on all parties to immediately halt the violence and pursue a path to peace. The remarks reflect ongoing American diplomatic efforts to address the protracted Sudanese conflict and its devastating humanitarian consequences.
